Pipeline Protest Set for Penticton and Osoyoos

10/23/2012

A protest to oppose the construction of Pipelines and Tankers in BC will take place in Penticton and Osoyoos on Wednesday.

The sit in is scheduled to take place at noon at MLA Bill Barisoff's constituency office in Penticton and at MLA John Slater's constituency office in Osoyoos.

Penticton organizer Candis Davis says the peaceful process is a part of more than 54 events planned province wide.

"We're standing together across our communities and across BC to defend our coast from tanker traffic, especially on the North Coast but increased tanker traffic in the South Coast of BC. And to send that message loud and clear that corporations simply can't have their way, that  we need to have a public discussion about the future of our coast."

Participants plan to link arms to symbolize BC's unbroken wall of opposition.

A major rally was held in Victoria on Monday to protest the proposed Northern Gateway Pipeline which would span from Alberta to Kitimat on the coast.

More information about the protest can be found online at www.leadnow.ca.

Rally's will also be held in Kelowna, Shuswap and Kamloops area.
