Osoyoos Mayor has UBCM Agenda

9/20/2012

The Union of British Columbian Municipalities (UBCM) will host their annual convention next week and Mayors from around the Okanagan will be in attendance.

Osoyoos Mayor Stu Wells has just one topic on his mind.

"The council is of to the Union of BC Municipalities at the start of next week. We have a new Minister of Transportation and when we go to see her will will certainly be talking about storm water management.

Wells says his top priority at the meeting will be to find a solution to the flooding situation that happened in Osoyoos.

Earlier in the year flooding issues created monsoon like havoc in the town's downtown area.

"We need to do a partnership with the Ministry of Transportation because of their main street and our town. We've had really good collaborative products so far so hopefully that will roll into our new issue of storm water management"

He estimates that fixing the storm water system will cost about a million dollars, something the town cannot afford to do on their own.

The annual UBCM meeting will begin on Monday in Victoria.
