Summerland RCMP Finally in New Detachment

7/30/2012

It's taken more than a decade but the Summerland RCMP have finally moved into their new detachment.

Summerland Mayor Janice Perrino says the project was a huge undertaking but couldn't have happened without community support.

"We had three referendums, you know there's a huge cost, this building cost $4.5 million and we came in on time and on budget which is terrific news. But that's a huge amount of money and we had to borrow some and the citizens were a part of that thank goodness."

Perrino adds the old RCMP building was built in 1975 and in desperate need of repairs.

The original detachment was a restaurant and disco and later converted into the RCMP building.

The new detachment is located at 9101 Pineo Court.
